2023 Annual Meeting & Picnic

A sizable crowd of 61 folks attended, unanimously electing the new board officers and members-at-large.

Once the presentation and business meeting were concluded, the picnic was in full swing. A wonderful assortment of pot luck sides, salads and desserts was enjoyed by all.

Incoming VP Tom McKeag presented Good Neighbor awards to outgoing Board members Pat Weaver and Paul Stewart, and news editor Roger Dean. In the spirit of cup-of-sugar-loaning neighborliness, each honoree received a box of sugar, along with a custom made measuring cup trophy and a gift certificate to the Gallery Restaurant in Winter Harbor.

Outdoing president Frank Chudnow was also gratefully recognized and honored, with a gift certificate from REI.

Our outstanding Prep and Clean-up Crew came through again with everything a great picnic could wish for—including beautiful fresh floral centerpieces for every table—along with all the other details they managed so well. All of the flowers were donated from member gardens.

It appears the floral arrangers had a blast!

The 2023 Annual Meeting & Picnic was well-attended, and featured an interesting and relevant presentation by Bill Zoellick, Volunteer Manager of the Gouldsboro Shore Initiative. His information focused on climate change and projected challenges, as they relate to our peninsula and its immediate surroundings. Bill explained some of the steps that the Town of Gouldsboro is taking towards a sustainable future for the town, and advised residents about other steps that we can all take to protect ourselves from coastal erosion.

Bill cited a recent study that was completed by FB Environmental Associates, which provides projections and statistics relating to regional sustainability.

Pierre Vauthy and Steve Coffey manned the grills, providing burgers and hot dogs for the hungry crowd. Though the pre-picnic meeting ran longer than expected, they managed things with their usual flair.
